Building Confidence to Find Employment
29th January 2021
An exciting partnership has formed in South Yorkshire to help those most in need get into employment. The Endorphins Group, Nomad Opening Doors and leading energy and regeneration specialist ENGIE have partnered together to support people who are homeless.
The aim of the partnership is to support people, without a fixed home, to improve their mental and physical health and help them be more employable in a pioneering programme to tackle the long-term causes of homelessness.
Nomad Opening Doors support around 400 people a year in Sheffield who are hidden homeless; people who might be sofa surfing, living in their cars or fleeing an unsafe home environment. Most of Nomad’s clients, up to 74%, have said they struggle with their mental well-being. This is often the main barrier to them finding long-term employment and permanent housing.
This fantastic partnership will allow Nomad’s clients to take part in Endorphins’ 6 session Step Ahead programme. People who access the programme will learn to become more confident, to manage their stress and anxiety and ultimately enhance their employability.
Karl Wilson, of The Endorphins Group, said: “We are very excited about this partnership, The Endorphins Group is fully focused on helping customers to be healthy and happy. Our aim is to improve the mental and emotional health of customers we work with.
“Our programme supports those with anxiety, low-moods, depression and despair, to feel confident and find their voices again. They are able to change “I can’t” into “I can”; find their passion and purpose in employment and independent living.”
ENGIE is committed to helping those who may struggle to find employment, by offering each candidate on the programme a mock interview and the opportunity of a work placement. ENGIE is an ideal partner for Nomad, as the company can potentially offer employment in construction, administration or in areas such as quantity surveying and marketing, following a successful application.
Claire Preston, Social Value Manager at ENGIE, said: “It is a pleasure to work in partnership with The Endorphins Group, Nomad Opening Doors and the people they support.
“We look forward to offering this group a taste of the world of work and to working together to help boost confidence and self-esteem of those on the programme.”
“This is a great opportunity for our clients, often what stops them applying for roles is their anxiety and self-confidence. With the Endorphins course they can learn coping techniques and ENGIE can support them through the job application process. We have high hopes that this opportunity will provide lasting change for our tenants.” Said Laura Baker, Corporate Partnerships at Nomad.
